When my teenager was six months old, she was RAST tested for what was then the top five allergens. The results were positive for all, leaving even the Doctors wondering how to proceed. POFAK, Parents of Food Allergic Kids, was a listserv where I found the support I needed. In 2005, POFAK became KFA (Kids With Food Allergies) and in 2013, KFA merged with AAFA (Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America). These organizations help maximize the quality of life for people with allergic diseases and asthma by continually supporting them with the most up to date medical information, creating peer-to-peer support forums, funding much needed research and working with lawmakers on a state and federal level. Please join me in giving whatever you can to this fantastic organization.
Kids With Food Allergies (KFA) educates families to prevent life threatening allergic reactions (anaphylaxis) and to be prepared to respond to allergic emergencies. Educating families and communities is essential to saving children’s lives and keeping them safe and healthy.
